Spectrum Human Services and Operation ABLE of Michigan Announce
Partnership
Spectrum Human Services, Inc. & Affiliated Companies and Operation
ABLE of Michigan are pleased to announce the establishment of a
partnership in which Operation ABLE is now an affiliated company and
member agency of Spectrum Human Services, Inc. The agreement
was effective September 1.
In this agreement, Operation ABLE remains a non-profit
corporation, retains its name, programs and services, but operates
under the umbrella of Spectrum Human Services. Each
organization retains its own non-profit 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status.
In
June,
Operation ABLE’s Board of Directors voted to cease operations, while
seeking other alternatives for continuing its mission. Since its
decision, the community support has been tremendous for Operation
ABLE and its mission of meeting the employment needs of mature
individuals, promoting lifelong learning and assisting the employer
community in developing a competent workforce.
Framework fills a
void
Roger Swaninger, President and CEO of Spectrum Human Services, Inc.,
noted “Like others in the community, we at Spectrum Human
Services were dismayed to hear of the closing of Operation ABLE. We
know their loss left a huge void in the metropolitan Detroit
community, particularly with mature adults seeking employment and
training opportunities."
"We
are pleased to provide a framework in which the important work of
Operation ABLE can continue, while adding new components to the
growing range of services offered by Spectrum Human Services and its
affiliated companies. In today’s world, non-profit organizations,
like for profit businesses, are realizing that when resources are
shared, more can be accomplished.”
Linda Burwell, Operation ABLE’s Board Chair, notes that this new
alliance with Spectrum Human Services, Inc. is a direct result of
these explorations and the community support. Ms. Burwell states,
“On behalf of the Board of Directors, we are excited about this
alliance and would like to thank all ABLE supporters who have given
encouragement, ideas, and support during this transition period.”
“This response confirms how important Operation ABLE is to the
community and enables the organization, in partnership with Spectrum
Human Services, to continue to serve the people of metropolitan
Detroit and southeastern Michigan.”
Operation
ABLE of Michigan, established in 1986, provides training, career
guidance, and placement assistance to individuals 40 and older who
have been laid off, are chronically unemployed or are
underemployed. It also assists businesses with training and hiring
needs.
In addition,
ABLE promotes the concept that “Ability is Ageless” through several
signature annual events, including the Ability is Ageless Award
Luncheon, which this year will be held in December. Operation ABLE
will continue to operate at The Hannan House, 4750 Woodward in
Detroit.
Spectrum
Human Services, Inc. & Affiliated Companies is a child welfare
and mental health human services organization. Founded in 1976,
