ABLE RECEIVES AT&T "EXCELERATOR" GRANT
Funding Will Improve Help for Jobseekers

Operation ABLE of Michigan has been awarded a $25,000 grant from the AT&T Foundation as part of the foundation’s Excelerator program.

The AT&T Excelerator program is a key component of AT&T AccessAll, a three-year, $100 million philanthropic initiative to provide technology access to the organizations that work to strengthen communities.  ABLE will use the funds as part of an ongoing effort to upgrade the hardware and software in its two computer labs and its state-of-the-art Career Center.

In ABLE’s computer labs mid-career and older jobseekers develop or improve their skills in using Microsoft Office applications.  The labs also include computer-based programs for improving reading, math, and other workplace skills.  In its Career Center students receive help in developing a resume,  considering career options, using the Internet for conducting a job search and submitting job applications online.

“We are very pleased to receive this grant,” said Mary McDougall, ABLE’s president.  “One of the challenges we face is keeping our classroom and Career Center technology up to date so our students can learn the software applications that employers are adopting and in which they expect job applicants to be proficient."

"We really appreciate AT&T’s commitment to nonprofits and their use of technology and the company's generous support of ABLE’s much-needed services,” said McDougall.
